The annual summer program with a tropical touch has been reformulated: the Brazilian Summer Sessions* are re-baptized to the Brazilian Music Series which make a stroll through music and society.  Six curated shows will bring the Sounds of Brazil to the Bimhuis, from May to July.

Have you ever heard of Carmen Miranda, Clara Nunes or Chiquinha Gonzaga? Maybe not. Therefore the first part of series will be vocal and pay homage to the inspiring muses of ROBERTA SÁ (06/05), CEUMAR (24/06) and a RODA DE SAMBA (01/07) will set the tone to talk about the work of influential singers, instrumentalists and composers from the rich music history of the country.

The second, instrumental part of the series will bring three groups with the finest of beats and notes of contemporary tupiniquim (tipical Brazilian) production: SATANIQUE SAMBA TRIO (28/05 - metal meets bossa nova beats), SOUKAST (07/06 - percussion of nature meets electronics) and TRIO CORRENTE (10/06 - classic bossa nova tunes).

The Brazilian Music Series aim at bringing talent of the Brazilian music to Holland and telling stories from its diverse culture to the world through rhythms and voices. These points strengthen the general mission of A Hora do Brasil supporting a healthy intercultural dialogue and exchange between the two countries, valuing diversity to build bridges of understanding and joyful musical relationships.

HISTORY

The Brazilian Summer Sessions* were born in 2006 to spread the hidden gems of Brazilian music that would not be known by foreigners during their trips through Brazil. It was the first program devoted exclusively to Brazilian music in Amsterdam, conceptualized by A Hora do Brasil Foundation.

In partnership with Bimhuis, the BSS's grew to be a cheerful and relaxed festival where music, film, art and dance met during the months of the European summer, bringing an authentic experience to the Netherlands. The Roda de Samba (Samba circle) of the BSS formed a generation of Dutch musicians, who continue spreading the genre in the Lowlands.

*Past BSS editions 2007-2013, with thanks to concept development of Artistic Director Neyde Lantyer and Executive Director Claudia Trajano, in memory of Annelies van Esveld (Executive Producer Bimhuis).
