The Brasil Roots platform is dedicated to Sérgio Buarque de Holanda (São Paulo, 1902-1982)  Journalist, Social Cientist e history professor, one of the greatest intellectuals of the twentieth century.  Sérgio has interpreted  Brazil in its social and politics structures through the national historic roots in  the book “Raízes do Brasil”, a masterpiece  to understand the complexities of Brazil, written in 1936.

With Sérgio as inspiration, the idea of the platform is to promote the exchange of knowledge and storytelling about the ethnic roots of the Brazilian people, starting with the Native Brazilian (índios), followed by the Portuguese and the Africans. What are the characteristics of each ethnic group? What is the influence of them in the Brazilian culture? How does this diversity work and develop?

We want to offer the audience sensorial experiences on what happens when different background merge together in a universal language. The Brasil Roots Platform include The Brazilian Summer Sessions (in partnership with Bimhuis) and  Botequim Brasil, aiming to show the junction of three continents in its cultures and interactions; what makes of Brazil one of the most diverse countries in the world.
