Brazilian Literatuur Weekend
January 14 and 15, 2006 Latijns Amerika Centrum Amsterdam
"The foundation A Hora do Brasil presented on January 14 and 15, 2006 the first Braziliaan Literatuur Weekend, with lectures by Ruud Ploegmakers and August Willemsen.

On Saturday, January 14, Ruud Ploegmakers, professor of Brazilian Literature at the University of Leiden, gave the lecture City of God – Book, Film and Neighbourhood. He is the translator of the book Cidade de Deus from Paulo Lins into Dutch (Stad van God), a modern classic that pictures the hard world of the favela.

On Sunday, January 15, the writer and translator August Willemsen delivered the lecture Prose and poetry – Guimarães Rosa and Fernando Pessoa to a room filled with literature lovers. Willemsen is the translator of classic Brazilian authors such as Machado de Assis, Guimarães Rosa, Carlos Drummond de Andrade, Euclides da Cunha and the Portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa.
